Q&A: Logo requests and usage guidelines
Q: My chapter would like to create a customized advertising brochure with our chapter name and logo—are there resources available to help us?
A: There are many marketing resources available to your chapter. These resources are located under the general marketing tab within C-BOX. You can find guidelines on the proper size, positioning, and colors for the logo, and instructions to incorporate your chapter name into the logo. The District and Chapter Services department is available to assist you in creating a professional PDF brochure for marketing your chapter offerings. Contact chaprel@apics.org or (800) 444-2742, (773) 867-1777, ext. 5436 for more information.
Q: What are the guidelines for APICS logo?
A: The APICS Identity Manual and Style Guide for APICS Chapters provides guidelines for the APICS logo. Your chapter's logo should appear with your chapter's name under the corporate logo. If your chapter does not have a current logo for website, business card, newsletter, and other printed documentation, it can be requested through APICS District and Chapter Services at chaprel@apics.org. APICS corporate will provide your chapter a logo in multiple file formats at no cost.
The style guide also gives proper usage of commonly used APICS terms (for example, when placing certification information after a name, APICS CPIM or CFPIM always precedes APICS CIRM and CSCP, and CSCP is always last. All APICS certifications precede non-APICS certifications.)
Download the APICS Identity Manual and Style Guide.
Spring cleaning: Ten steps for a successful board transition
As your chapter prepares to slow down for the summer break, outgoing and incoming chapter presidents should take a moment to review the following chapter transition checklist. Completing these administrative tasks will position your chapter for a successful 2011 program year.
Step 1: Update your chapter board roster for the 2011–2012 term
Deadline: As soon as your chapter's new board is identified
Whether you are the outgoing chapter president or planning to continue in your role, you must update your chapter's board roster using the My Chapter database management tool. My Chapter is an online database management tool that provides designated chapter officers with real-time access to key member and chapter-specific data.
The ability to make updates to the My Chapter Board Management function is restricted to chapter presidents. Chapter presidents must update their board roster for the 2011–2012 term before June 30, 2011, or access to My Chapter and reporting will be lost.
Contact the APICS District and Chapter Services team for assistance with updating your board roster.
Step 2: Complete the Chapter Benchmarking and Reporting (C-BAR) Program
Deadline: July 31, 2011
APICS chapters are required to report annual compliance with Chapter Minimum Standards (CMS) to the District Manager and District Volunteer Management Staff for evaluation. Chapters in compliance with CMS are also encouraged to participate in the Chapter Benchmarking and Reporting (C-BAR) recognition program. If you have questions please contact your appropriate district representative.
Step 3: Enroll your chapter for group commercial general liability insurance
APICS chapters in the US and Puerto Rico have the opportunity to be insured under a master policy for comprehensive general liability coverage at an annual cost of $75. The effective date of the policy begins the date of your enrollment. Contact the APICS District and Chapter Services Department for an enrollment form to participate.
Step 4: Tour C-BOX with your incoming Chapter Board
C-BOX is your online, one stop shop resource for chapter/partner management resources, ideas and best practices, marketing tools, membership development templates, and guidelines for developing and maintaining a successful APICS chapter. C-BOX also provides chapter/partner resources to help you deliver APICS educational courses to your members and customers.
Step 5: Review archive issues of Leadership Central with your incoming APICS Chapter Board
Leadership Central is a monthly e-newsletter featuring corporate updates, best practices, tools of the trade, leadership advice, and important dates. Each month, the officers you list in the Board Management area of My Chapter will receive an email with the current issue of Leadership Central. The Leadership Central newsletter is the primary communication vehicle between APICS and all channel partner leaders.
If a board member of your board experiences difficulty receiving the issues, the APICS District and Chapter Services team is available to troubleshoot.
Step 6: Provide incoming chapter officers with a Chapter Leadership Handbook
APICS volunteers and corporate staff created handbooks to help officers understand and execute their specific volunteer roles. Chapter presidents should supply the accompanying Chapter Leader Handbook to the appropriate board member, as needed.
The following handbooks are available for download in C-BOX or for order by calling APICS Customer Support at (800) 444-2742:
(new) Channel Partner Leadership Marketing Handbook
Education Handbook
Finance/Treasurer Handbook
Newsletter Handbook
Membership Handbook
President and President-Elect Handbook
Strategic Planning Handbook and Worksheet
Step 7: Subscribe your entire board to the APICS Officer electronic mailing list
APICS provides a chapter and district officer electronic mailing list. The list is for interactive communication among current chapter and district officers in North America.
To participate in the forum, chapter officers must subscribe to the service. Chapter presidents should make sure the entire board completes the subscription form and returns the completed form to APICS District and Chapter Services.
Step 8: Discuss the reduced conference registration rate for volunteer leaders with your board
Chapter presidents can designate up to five representatives to attend the 2011 APICS International Conference & Expo, October 23–25, 2011 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, at a reduced registration rate of $899. To qualify for the reduced registration rate, the designated individuals must attend the APICS Volunteer Leadership Workshop (October 22, 2011), have the approval of their chapter president, and register using the APICS Volunteer Leadership Workshop registration form. For a copy of the registration form contact the APICS District and Chapter Services department.
Step 9: Connect with your district manager and district volunteer management staff
The more than 250 local APICS chapters are divided into nine geographic districts that span North America. Each district has a District Manager and a District Volunteer Management team that are made up of experienced volunteers. They assist chapter officers by developing and implementing chapter management training, and provide a two-way communication between APICS corporate and the local chapter.
To locate your district, and to contact your District Volunteer Management staff, visit apics.org/membership/districts/default.htm.
Step 10: Access the APICS District and Chapter Services Department
The APICS District and Chapter Services department corporate staff is dedicated to providing support to APICS chapters. Located geographically within the districts, the staff provides dedicated support to the chapters and chapter officers within their district, as well as general member support.
From chapter specific strategic planning assistance, to volunteer recognition campaign ideas, to help with chapter billing questions, the corporate staff is available to answer any APICS district and chapter related questions you may have.
To better serve you, the District and Chapter Services Department has dedicated phone, fax, email and Web resources for your use.
