Last Chance: Recognize and Nominate Stellar Operations and Supply Chain Management Individuals by June 30
2011 APICS Future Leaders Program
APICS once again is pleased to present the Future Leaders Program, a leadership development program that identifies young professionals and offers them mentoring opportunities so they may become future APICS leaders.
In 2011, we are taking a different approach with the Future Leaders Program to provide leadership development opportunities for operations and supply chain management students. Our aim is to help participants understand the qualities of effective leaders and provide them with the knowledge necessary to develop leadership skills in the early stages of their careers. This not only is an important development opportunity for participating individuals, the program also supports the APICS strategic goal of developing leadership in the organization.
We need your help selecting participants who can benefit from this experience. The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2010. Download the 2011 APICS Future Leaders Program nomination form here.
Nominate Outstanding APICS Volunteers
Recognize our most dedicated leaders by nominating them for the Voluntary Service Award, Student Voluntary Service Award, or the Student Chapter Mentor Award. APICS also is pleased to introduce a new award this year, the International Voluntary Service Award.
Download award applications from the Awards section of the APICS web site.
Nomination applications now are being accepted and must be postmarked by June 30, 2010. This year’s award recipients will receive:
- Complimentary registration to the 2010 APICS International Conference & Expo
- Recognition on the APICS web site and at the conference
- An award recognizing their achievement.

Make a Difference: Donate to the APICS Scholars Education Program
The success of the Scholars Education Program is largely due to the generous contributions made by you—the APICS chapter leaders.
The APICS Scholars Education Program is designed to help introduce students to the operations management field and APICS education. The APICS International Conference & Expo, which helps facilitate the program, provides a positive learning experience for students, develops advocates for APICS by involving students in the organization at the early stages of their careers, and enhances their development as potential future leaders.
Donations may be made by clicking here - you must be logged in to the APICS web site to make a donation. You may also donate by check to the APICS Educational and Research Foundation. Donations also can be made by individuals or corporations. (Check to see if your company has a matching gift program.) To ensure this program is implemented fully, our financial goal (pledges) must be reached by July 31, 2010, and checks must be submitted before September 1, 2010.

Brandywine Valley Chapter—A Success Story
The Brandywine Valley Chapter (formerly Southern Delaware Valley Chapter) was the 2010 first quarter grand prize winner in the chapter incentive award program. The chapter has a proven record of strong sales and certifications. In 2009 Brandywine Valley purchased $48,900 in CSCP materials (the largest chapter purchaser in North America last year). In addition, the chapter’s membership of 338 has remained steady during difficult economic times. Last year Brandywine Valley contributed to the certification of 50 members and acquired 81 new members. In the 2010 first quarter the success continued with 15 CSCP certifications and the acquisition of 23 new members. At least 59 percent of the chapter membership holds at least one APICS certification.
Al Leigh, CPIM, CSCP, Brandywine Valley chapter president, says, “A strong chapter board of directors contributes to a strong chapter. All but one of the 13 board members is returning for duty this next term.”
Much of the chapter’s success also can be attributed to its educational offerings. Leigh continues, “We looked for creative ways to offer CPIM classes so that we can ensure good customer service. We have committed to offering CPIM modules even at a loss to the chapter to enable members to complete their CPIM.”
Brandywine Valley promoted CPIM classes with special offers such as four modules for the price of three, group discounts for companies with three or more participants, and free classes for unemployed chapter members.
Congratulations to the Brandywine Valley Chapter for its contribution to the APICS community and the members’ dedication to educational success.

Introducing the APICS CPIM Recertification Exam
APICS is pleased to announce that a new certification product is being developed this year. The APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) Recertification Exam was approved by the APICS Leadership Team in February 2010.
The APICS CPIM Recertification Exam provides a unique opportunity to individuals whose CPIM credentials have expired and previously had been required to retake all five CPIM exams. Instead, candidates now can renew their certifications by taking a single exam. This exam will be available only through December 31, 2011.
The three-hour exam will consist of 120 multiple-choice questions. It will include 30 items taken from each of the following modules: Detailed Scheduling and Planning, Master Planning of Resources, Execution and Control of Operations, and Strategic Management of Resources. There will be no unscored items on this exam.
Take the APICS CPIM Recertification Exam at APICS 2010 Candidates will have the opportunity to take a paper-and-pencil exam at the 2010 APICS International Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Q&A
Q. Do we need to file the form 990-N if our chapter received less than $25,000 in revenue?
A. Yes, chapters whose annual gross receipts normally are $25,000 or less may be required to electronically submit form 990-N, also known as the e-Postcard, unless chapter leaders choose to file a complete form 990 or form 990-EZ.
However, an organization that fails to file required e-Postcards (or information returns forms 990 or 990-EZ) for three consecutive years automatically loses its tax-exempt status. The revocation of the organization’s tax-exempt status will not take place until the filing due date of the third year. Click here to learn more.
Q. What is the deadline to submit CMS/CBAR, and where are the submission documents located?
A. The deadline is July 31, 2010. All chapters should submit Chapter Minimum Standards (CMS) and Chapter Benchmarking and Recognition (CBAR) to their District Manager/District Staff for evaluation by July 31. The submission documents are located in C-BOX.
The primary purpose of CMS is to enhance the growth, development, and membership value-add of APICS chapters by evaluating each chapter against a set of criteria. This has a direct and positive impact on chapter performance. Chapters electing to participate in CBAR must comply with the CMS and complete sections 1 and 2 of the CBAR Excel Workbook.
