| New from APICS Announcing the New APICS Member Referral Program Research shows that member referral programs are becoming more and more successful. APICS will launch a referral campaign next week to leverage our members' face-to-face and online networks for member recruitment. The campaign will run during March and will encourage members to share APICS with their colleagues in person and online. They also will be able to send a message to colleagues through the campaign landing page. For each member who joins APICS and includes the referring member's name in the "Referred by" field upon joining, the referring member will be entered in a drawing to win an Apple iPad. Members who send their colleagues a note through the campaign landing page will receive one entry in the iPad drawing for every 10 colleagues they refer to APICS. How can APICS channel partners participate? This campaign will launch next week, so be sure to watch your inbox for the campaign launch and encourage your members to refer their local colleagues to APICS. Marketing and Promotions Adventures in Chapter Marketing--the APICS Cleveland Chapter Experience Has your chapter seriously considered a plan to increase or retain members? Leaders of the APICS Cleveland Chapter, with 425 members, are dissatisfied with their current membership numbers, so they plan to do something about it. At the recent APICS Mid Atlantic District Meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dennis Okocha, CPIM, C.P.M., Cleveland Chapter president, presented the chapter's marketing strategy. He reviewed three key metrics: - increasing membership
- boosting the number of educational opportunities at public and in-house sites
- organizing and increasing attendance at professional development meetings.
The chapter's marketing strategy was designed to provide a sustainable platform of growth for chapter activities using high-impact communications and promotions; encouraging individuals and businesses to leverage APICS education, tools, and techniques for advancing careers; and growth. Okacha also discussed the chapter's declining membership, slow economic recovery, cost issues, and reduced support from businesses to fund individuals. The Cleveland Chapter strategy includes a Partner Development Program. This program involves the following steps: - Partner with APICS Corporate for lead generation and support.
- Partner with local academic (colleges and universities) institutions.
- Partner with educators and educational providers.
- Create a vibrant student chapter.
New market development tactics focus on lead generation using commercial marketing databases and partnering with other educational organizations for cross training. The plan also incorporates building brand awareness by increasing chapter website content to attract more traffic, developing effective advertising campaigns, and using social networking sites. This plan is meant to be longer term and will take time and effort to implement. Can a similar program work at your chapter? Consider engaging marketing professionals on a fact-finding team, open new board positions to support the project, and have a budget for marketing and advertising. If chapter officers and volunteers require assistance, perhaps hire someone temporarily. For additional marketing information, the Channel Partner Leadership Marketing Handbook, marketing communication tools, and marketing membership are resources available in C-BOX.
